FAQ - Questions - Reviews on Four Winds Infinity
- What do you think of this poem I wrote in 1997?
THE JOURNEY BEGINS One tiny drop from the expanse of the ocean within it lies the mind of unconscious emotions Out on my own, left to my own resources. An individual at last, creating life's courses. A body made manifest set out to discover so many hidden treasures to uncover. Behind me I leave my ocean of blue. Into the wilderness my spirit roams free. Forlorn, forsaken inhabitants unseen. The sound of a bird the first sound I hear. The sight I behold produces a tear. This land is extended its richness unknown. My spirit entwined with the four winds that blow. The red dust I walk in leaves footprints behind gently dispersing in infinite time. The beauty beholds me with each breath I take. Learning to temper, soften and relate the flora, the fauna and the birds in their trees. Fish in their oceans all wonderfully free living in harmony with the other. Embraced by nature their tender loving mother, supplying abundance the food that they need. Providing their shelter she lovingly heeds. As I gaze up above still where I stand My eyes reflect beauty so brilliant and grand. The stars and the planets set high in its firmanent. A silent wish all I witness remains permanent. As I sit and ponder for awhile My heart filled with joy I lovingly smile. This virgin land I've walked upon, the stars and moon and planets beyond. A moment in time I've heard and I've seen. A universe so awesome, untouched and clean. So I awaken and begin my journey. My home, my life, my soul's been yearning to explore and respect and enjoy this land. Its spirit, its beaches and pure white sands. To walk with love and an open heart. Eternally grateful never to depart. Take my hand and walk with me together we'll share infinity.

- Nikon D90, D7000, D700, D3x -- Will 24" x30" prints at ISO 200 be distinguishable? -- MORE BELOW --?
Canon fans: Same two questions, only with these four canon DSLR's: Canon T2i, 7D, 5D Mark I, and 1Ds Mark III, and with comparable Canon zoom lenses -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Only looking for your "off-the-top-of-your-head", "what-pops-into-your-head", best reasonable guesses in answering this question ... ------------------------------------------------------------------- Suppose these four Nikon DSLR cameras are equipped with best-quality, midrange-focallength-range, Nikon zoom lenses [Lenses to be chosen with the intent to minimize the effects of lens choice on final print quality]. - All four cameras shoot the same subject: A cold, sunny, zero-wind, zero-cloud, mid-morning, late-fall, landscape scene looking into the Grand Canyon. With a half-inch of snowfall from the previous night. And the Colorado River visible a few miles away. - ISO is set to 200 on all four cameras - A relatively small aperature is used for a relatively large depth of field - Lens focus point set to infinity on all four cameras - All four cameras are mounted on tripods - All four cameras have their zoom adjusted to cover the same angle of view when shooting (say around 45 degrees horizontally) - The in camera settings adjusted (to the extent that this is possible) to produce matching color, contrast, saturation, etc - White balance is custom set on all four cameras using the same white card. - The in-camera sharpening in each camera is set to its default level - All four images captured in RAW format with no post-processing A 24" x 30" state-of-the-art print is made from each camera. FIRST QUESTION: In a blind comparason test -- Can a professional photographer [who's used all four cameras extensively] reliably / consistently / quickly match the print to the camera that made the image, by looking only at the finished prints? My guess is yes, he will able to match all four reliably, correctly, consistently. What do you think? Now here is the more interesting question, in my opinion ... SECOND QUESTION: How much smaller would the print size have to be for even the most eagle-eyed photographers to fail at least half the time, when matching the prints to the cameras? My guess is that below about 16 x 20" print size, no one could reliably-and-consistently match the prints to the cameras. [at least, not very quickly] What do you think?
A 1) Simple answer, NO. There really is no difference. If there was, then one or the other brand would be the only choice to professionals. 2) Yes, 16 x 20 will show the pixel count/density...well at least with a magnifying glass. If it's print quality that is really bothering you, then don't worry about it! If you print a 16 x 20, the closest you should be to it when normally viewing it is 3 feet. Can you spot microscopic details from 3 feet away? Doubt it.
